Stanbury Uniforms is proud to have concluded its 5th year as a Corporate Sponsor for Drum Corps International. During the week of August 8-11, 2007, Stanbury was out in full-force with eight Division I corps and two Division II-III finalists among the ranks of “Stanbury Corps” at the Drum Corps International World Championships, held this year at the famed Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena, California.
General Manager Steve Roberts and his family made the trek from the corporate headquarters in Brookfield, Missouri and joined California Regional Manager Pat Seidling in sunny southern California to cheer on all our corps and to join with the DCI family in celebrating the 35th annual Drum Corps International World Championships.
On behalf of the entire Stanbury family, Pat and Steve would like to thank DCI for providing a wonderful Marketplace experience. John Denovi, Lora Morton, Bob Lendman and the DCI Marketplace crew created a wonderful atmosphere for our many, many clients to visit our booth and cheer on their favorite corps. Kudos to you, DCI, we can’t wait to see what you’ll have in store for Indianapolis in 2008!
Our Stanbury corps came west looking sharp, and each gave truly memorable performances. Let’s take a moment to recognize each of them now:
The Oregon Crusaders showed up in their rich green and gold-based Stanbury uniforms and powered their way into a Division III Finalist spot, their third consecutive year among the Division II-III elite.
Earning their way to a Silver Medal in Division II, Teal Sound from Florida awed the audience with the largest corps in that class. Their uniquely designed teal (what else?!) and black two-toned Stanbury uniform was as powerful as their big 54-member brass sound.
In the Division I events, Stanbury had a roster of both new and long-standing corps representing the best and brightest in drum corps entertainment.
Returning to the field after a season off, and no less than THE sentimental favorite of the week, Wyoming’s Troopers were truly a class act. Dressed in the distinctive Trooper blue with gold neckerchief and black cavalry hat, their new Stanbury uniforms let all in the Rose Bowl know that the Troopers we once knew and loved are not only back in full force, but are here to stay with a big, modern look and sound.
Kentucky’s Southwind walked onto the field in rich yellow and black sparkle Stanbury uniforms, presenting a look as bold as the show designs they have come to be known for. A powerful drum line and inventive show concept kept the audience in the palm of their hand and led them to a 19th place finish in a very competitive Division I prelims event.
Friday’s semi-finals competition saw a pool of corps that any other year would have all been Top 12 finalists. Not only were 13th through 15th positions held by corps that had fans pulling for them in a big way, but each of the three wore distinctive Stanbury uniforms.
The world-renown Madison Scouts rolled into Pasadena with a young corps, yet in classic Scout fashion gave a show as thrilling as any they have ever fielded. Dressed in Stanbury uniforms of their own design, Madison brought together the many shades of green that the corps has worn the past 58 years and capped it off with a shiny red fleur de lis right over each of the young men’s hearts. Madison roared into a 15th place finish and first in the fan’s hearts.
The “kid’s from God’s country” - La Crosse, Wisconsin’s Blue Stars - made a strong case to extend the coveted Top 12 to a Top 14. A perennial Division I powerhouse through the 1970’s, Blue Stars are once again a big-time drum corps. Their newest set of Stanbury uniforms present a cutting-edge concept while ensuring that a fan from any era could instantly recognize this legendary corps. Stanbury artist Brent Becker put his pen to the paper and proved you can serve many masters, right down to two-tone shoes!
From the heat of the Arizona desert came a “new” corps that put the heat onto many an established corps this summer! In rich and distinctive crimson and black Stanbury uniforms, The Academy was mere tenths from claiming a Top 12 berth this summer, after claiming the Division II crown in 2006. Powered by a state-of-the-art brass program, The Academy showed maturity in all sections and gave notice that they are undoubtedly ready for the bright lights.
Canton, Ohio’s Bluecoats grew out of a Police Athletic Club activity, thus their “blue coat” name. In what is being heralded as the most cutting-edge uniform design in all of drum corps, the Bluecoats presented a fan-favorite program that people will talk about right up until they step on the field and top it next summer! In a Stanbury uniform inspired by a Japanese anime version of a futuristic police officer, the Bluecoats managed to merge their police department roots to their “Criminal” production, all the while raising the bar on uniform design and creativity. Completing a summer that saw them beat every corps in the nation at least once, the Bluecoats earned the highest-ever recorded 7th place finals score and won the respect of fans and competitors alike.
Phantom Regiment took to the green Rose Bowl turf in majestic bright white Stanbury uniforms. The theme was “On Air” but the rule was “power.” Powerful music, powerful emotions and a powerful look…in short, another signature Phantom Regiment performance was at hand. Trimmed out in uniquely made blue-feather print baldric and gauntlet sets designed by the corps’ long-time benefactor Process Graphics and manufactured at the Stanbury plant in Missouri, the corps set an ethereal mood that had fans on the edge of their seats for 9 minutes, and on their feet for the 10th. Earning bronze and silver medals in 2005 and 2006 respectively, this year’s 4th place finish was a winner in every Phantom Phan’s heart.
Two other Stanbury corps did not make the trek to the west coast, but are no less appreciated by the Stanbury family. The Blue Saints of Sudbury, Ontario, Canada and the Capital Sound from Madison, Wisconsin both had very successful seasons that entertained fans throughout the Midwest and gave their members an experience that will serve a lifetime. Look for both to be at next years World Championships in Indiana, and look for Capital Sound to be sporting a brand-new Brent Becker designed Stanbury uniform.
Now, do not for a moment think August 11 was the end of drum corps for 2007. Not in the least! This September 1st and 2nd, the Drum Corps Associates (all-age senior corps circuit) holds their Championship event in Rochester, New York.
Not only will Stanbury uniforms be seen on the field in Rochester, they’ll be worn by the reigning champion Reading Buccaneers!
Crowned the DCA Champs in both 2005 and 2006, the Bucs are rolling into the final stretch undefeated and the odds-on favorite to win again this year. Decked out in rich blue Stanbury uniforms, this corps brings a classic sound to this very entertaining medium known as “all age” corps. Buccaneer’s board member Tom Moore is quick to point out a fact that we are quite proud of. According to Tom, since the corps donned Stanbury uniforms in June of 2005, the corps has yet to lose a single show!
Congratulations to all our Drum Corps International corps and good luck to our DCA corps!
Stand Out. Stanbury.
